Orizon and the University of Alicante launch the fifth edition of one of the most specialised courses in computing

Orizon, the University of Alicante and the Alicante Science Park launch the fifth edition of their course on development in mainframe environments.

Madrid, 17 February 2025. – Orizon, the University of Alicante (UA) and the Alicante Science Park have launched the fifth edition of the course on development in mainframe environments, for students of the university who are finishing degrees in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Engineering, Multimedia Engineering, Sound and Image Engineering, Telecommunications and Robotics Engineering.

At the end of the course, designed to turn students into specialists in the mainframe environment, and specifically in large IBM systems, students receive an official certificate from the Alicante Science Park and the chance to join Orizon, whose 34 professionals are experts in mainframe technologies, distributed and cloud environments, and IT service management.

Now in its fifth edition, the course is one of the most highly specialised in academia today. With it, its promoters want to help raise students' interest in STEM degrees (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), where enrolment in Spain is falling, which makes it even harder for companies to find specialised IT talent.

Technology performance management with a sea view

With this highly specialised training, Orizon gives young people a gateway to a career in a segment of the technology market that is not only in high demand and of high value, but also of great interest for R&D. It is all part of Orizon's commitment to creating quality jobs and continuously developing talent in a privileged setting: the city of Alicante, home to its technology centre.

Orizon's technology centre, the Performance Technical Office (OTR), operates under the PoC (Performance Operation Center) model and has a threefold role: improving the performance of IT applications and infrastructure by detecting and eliminating problems, optimising system response times and reducing the total cost of technology infrastructure.

According to Orizon's CEO, Ángel Pineda, "unlike body-shopping firms, Orizon operates in a very specialised market niche with high growth potential, where developing new talent is critical". "The best proof of our team's level of specialisation is our BOA platform, the result of 15 years of R&D and of the work of professionals with knowledge and skills that cannot be acquired in formal training programmes and that, like good algorithms, develop and sharpen with experience."
